GDPR: The New EU General Data Protection Regulation.

Any business that holds personal information about any EU citizen must be compliant with the GDPR as of May 2018.

This will affect all companies holding and using any information on any EU citizen – regardless of whether the company is based in the EU.

This personal information can be something as simple as:

Email addresses.

Customer addresses or lists.

Customer phone numbers.

The GDPR is an enhancement of the current EU Data Protection Act (DPA) and is a timely response to the way companies share and handle personal data in a predominantly digital world.

The new EU Data Protection Regulation standardises on set of requirements for all businesses that hold personal info on European citizens. The legislation is very broad and covers many aspects of personal data.

The Regulation extends the rights of EU individuals regarding the personal details that a company holds and how they are acquired. It requires organisations to develop clear policies and procedures to protect personal data and to implement appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect it.
